To Battle

when the battle is over

one side topples another,

one side cower underneath the powers

of the victors, who revere themselves as heroes

as they grow older. Each side attempts to justify

their orders to take lives, to kill men that bear the same

drives, the same incentives to survive. The men on both sides

desire to return to their wives, sons, and other families’ ties.

They were taught to enforce their beliefs in multiple assembly lines.

But within this madness, resides the truth of conflict, battles and strife:

In War, there is no victory, because we all die.
